LTL Shipping Cost Increases: How Gorilla Shipper Is Keeping Customers First
What Changed with LTL Shipping?
Effective July 18, 2025, the National Motor Freight Classification (NMFC) introduced new rules that are shaking up the logistics industry. Previously, pulp trays used in our pulp shipper kits were always classified as freight class 125, no matter the density of the pallet.
Now, the freight class is determined by density. Because pulp trays are lightweight by design, they nearly always fall into a higher freight class. The result? Significantly higher Less-Than-Truckload (LTL) shipping costs for our pulp trays and pulp shipper kits.
Why Does This Matter?
Freight class plays a big role in shipping costs. The higher the class, the higher the rate. Since Gorilla Shipper specializes in eco-friendly pulp trays and packaging, the weight-to-volume ratio of our products means we’re hit hardest by these changes. Unfortunately, this isn’t just a challenge for us, it impacts the final shipping price our customers see at checkout.
Gorilla Shipper’s Proactive Approach
We know increased shipping costs can frustrate customers, and we’re taking immediate steps to help minimize the impact:
- Integrating New Carriers: We’re partnering with new, cost-efficient regional carriers to help offset rising rates.
- Exploring Small Parcel Options: For smaller shipments, we’re investigating the use of parcel services instead of LTL to keep costs down.
- Absorbing Part of the Cost: Gorilla Shipper is discounting shipping charges and covering part of the cost ourselves. This means the shipping price you see at checkout is lower than what we actually pay.
Our Commitment to You
These industry-wide changes affect every shipper, but at Gorilla Shipper, we refuse to pass the full burden to our customers. Our goal is to provide sustainable, affordable, and protective packaging without hidden costs or surprises.
We’re committed to adapting quickly, innovating smarter shipping strategies, and continuing to support our customers’ needs because your business deserves reliable packaging solutions without breaking the bank.
Final Thoughts
LTL shipping changes are an unavoidable reality, but Gorilla Shipper is standing by our promise to put customers first. By adjusting carriers, exploring new shipping methods, and absorbing part of the cost, we’re making sure your experience stays smooth, affordable, and stress-free.
